Ainsworth, Birkenhead, Cromwell and Darby. Everleigh and Fawcett, Gresham and Huckabee. Keene, Langston, Marlowe and Northcott – Ogden and Perry and Quinton and Rutherford. Scarboro, Trollope, Upton and Vance. Warwick and Yorke… But nothing with Z.
These are my favorites from each letter on a list of Old English Surnames. Give it a read through – there are so many good ones. The Ws especially are quite fantastic. Each of these names deserves a story.
Each of them feel like they carry a weight. They seem more substantial than the trial last names of today. Smith? Johnson? Miller?
Anyway. I’m knackered, I’ll write something better tomorrow.
